Originally released on iOS, the first Real Racing had surprised everyone with graphics and realism never before seen on the gantry. Since the developer, Firemint was aquired by EA and above, version 2 was launched and this time, it is available on Android!
This game ultra-realistic racing wants to be a reference racing game. And we want to believe! After tasting it, as you say I was totally hooked. The idea is simple: to offer the game simulator the most realistic cars, pushing the boundaries of the medium. That's it!
The graphics are impressive from the first seconds. It's beautiful, it's late, it's very fluid: a real treat. The small details are important in a game Firemint has understood and the game does not lack. Rims are really modeled in 3D (not all flat, a first to my knowledge on Android) and the mirror can s snatch, just like the bumper (even that one does not see on any PC or consoles simulations!). Lighting effects are beautiful (effects of shadows and colors, with the sun) and reflections are just well proportioned in the right place: it's really great work!
And conduct in all this? Do not spoil, it is fully investigated. Thus, while holding the knob with the touch screen is an option, the now traditional way "accelerometer" is present but mostly well balanced. Many games that ask you to wiggle the camera from left to right without stopping, stupidly imitating a flying while it becomes unplayable. Here the sentibilité was specially emphasized. The car driver is therefore almost "to thinking" because it takes only a few millimeters look to steer the car with precision, without getting a headache to rotate the screen constantly
.
The few proposed cameras are all playable characters, ranging from the classic view "pursuit" (several distances of the car) to view the bumper through the hood view. But the one that gets all the attention is really the cockpit view, which is just incredible. Full details of the passenger cars have been faithfully modeled, including the control knob mirror! This attention to detail is really nice and most importantly, this view is fully playable: a pure favorite!
Real Racing 2 is based on a classic career mode, operating on the basis of money to win by winning races (here no credits or Simoleons, just simple dollars!). The difficulty is measured while very uneven across races. Indeed, some leagues will seem almost easy in "hard" mode while other races look good tough competition even in "easy" mode (especially in the first few races with powerful cars). The difficulty can be changed at any time in the career mode, even during the championship.
Progress is well proportioned. You buy as a small Golf GTI or Volvo C30, then quickly you earn enough greenbacks to upgrade your car with options for basic performance and hopefully not too technical: improved trip computer, tire, engine Every improvement ... may be enabled or disabled, which is of interest since most races require a specific type of vehicle within any range of well-defined power. By playing on these improvements you can adjust the power of your cars. So even if you have accumulated enough money to buy a beautiful Corvette in the third race, it will be of no use because it is too powerful to participate in the race.
The side of the garage, found only real models among the largest automotive brands, but not necessarily the most prestigious. Thus, we do not find a Ferrari or Porsche catalog, yet the BMW, Lotus, Volkswagen, Volvo, Nissan, Jaguar, Ford / Shelby, Chevrolet and finally McLaren.
Each brand offers several cars more or less efficient, accompanying the player throughout its progression. This is going to type cars "Grand Touring" prepared for the race such as the Chevrolet Corvette C6.R and the Volvo C30 STCC. 30 cars in total will be unlocked.
The tours offered by Real Racing 2 is the number of 15 plots are drawn (this is fictional circuits) and environments are varied. So we find street circuits and conventional circuits. And again, we can acknowledge the work of graphics and optimization Firemint, which offers us both varied scenery and fine textures, unheard of for a racing game on Android. Races can take place at any time of day or night, giving varied and successful lighting scenes. No management on the weather however, perhaps for the next installment?
The soundtrack is perhaps the only real weakness of the game. Sounds of the engines are too small and not sufficiently well reproduced (although they are different models). We would have liked more care in the roar of the cars, as the rest is successful, and this is unfortunately not the beauty of music that fill this small flaw hoped also corrected in Real Racing 3.
To finish this test, you will understand that Real Racing 2 is a real favorite. The races are tight with opponents (up to 15 in the same race!) Tough and not so stupid, the graphics are simply amazing and the action remains perfectly fluid. Certainly it will not work on all phones and requires some power. But you can not blame him for that! As an automotive fan and racing games, I order all aspiring pilots to take a look at this game that really deserves a visit. It is available free with a very low content, but it will cost a few euros if you want to continue the adventure.
GT Racing Motor Academy was a great simulation game already available for Android, but Firemint done in excellence with the Real Racing 2 Gameloft will have it a shot, to achieve an equivalent level!
